Has Germany left gas storage refilling too late?

Germany’s gas storage inventories are trailing those of European neighbours and prompting concerns about the coming winter. Record low volumes of gas in storage couldn’t come at a worse time: The US-Israeli war with Iran is disrupting roughly a fifth of the world’s LNG supply and the EU is on track to phase out imports of Russian LNG deliveries at the end of the year. Gas prices have returned to levels not seen since the start of the Ukraine war – yet the situation is also different this time around.
