Germany floats energy subsidies for its beleaguered industry

Germany wants to offer energy intensive companies access to a subsidised power price starting from next year. This comes amid mounting pressure on policymakers to restore the competitiveness of industrial sectors struggling to compete against global rivals with much cheaper energy. The government has all but finalised talks with the European Commission to make its plans conform to the EU’s competition rules.
