Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania’s long-planned disconnection from the Russian power system is expected to go ahead on Saturday, 8 February. This move, which is estimated to have cost around EUR 1.6bn, comes almost three years after the Baltic states stopped trading electricity with Russia following the country’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Baltic TSOs are confident the transition will be smooth despite recent threats to vital energy infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. Reporting by Olav Vilnes, Editor Nordics, Montel.
